One common place homeowners need help is water placement. The location, frequency, quality and volume of watering are also very significant factors in tree health. As an oversimplification, trees feeder roots flush out twice a year in spring and fall and the application of water at the wrong location can lead to root rot or even cause them to run out to grab rain and then die off when things dry out. Trees will generally feed along the drip line of the tree, but their system runs well out past that, often twice as far, depending upon obstructions. As the tree grows, it will gather water from further out. One simple mistake at many homes is that the irrigation system is placed too close to the tree trunk during installation and it does not distribute water well. This can be easily solved with the installation of a drip irrigation line around the drip line of the tree and further if possible.
